Word of the Month

The word of the month of October is: 

RESPONSIBILITY

Responsibility is "A willingness to be accountable for your own actions without blaming others."

If we show responsibility, we demonstrate that we can be trusted. It is hard to take responsibility when something goes wrong. Even in that case, other appreciate those who takes responsibility for their own actions and make an effort to remedy the situation.

On Wednesday September 21st, we had our first Insta-Art table of the year at Alton High School. 

Insta-Art  has the purpose of encouraging creative expression and positive interaction for students with their fellow students, teachers, and themselves.

This Wednesday the students were invited to stop by to artistically respond to a #(hashtag). 

#AHS#MessagesofHope

Paper strips and markers were available to students. They were asked to write down or draw on a paper strip a thought or a wish for someone going through a hard time in order to instill #hope. The strips were then stapled together to create a "chain of hearts".

The InstaArt table will be present every Wednesday in the Alton High School Cafeteria during the lunch hours.

Character Trait for the month of August

As customary in our district, each month we focus on a "character trait" to describe a personal strength that could define who we are and how we act. 

The Month of August Character Trait is: "Self Control". Having self-control is defined as “having power and control over one’s emotion, action, and words”.  This is particularly useful especially when faced with difficult situations. Having self-control helps a person to make the right decision without following the own impulses or even when “we do not feel like it”.
